Citizen Kane

CITIZEN KANE
Director: Orson Welles
American Drama

I personally think this was a 'different' movie. I did like how they told his story through the media, and how others wanted to hear about his life. I didn't like how they made him out to be a bad man. True he was a brute, but he did have feelings and he did care about people. I think that the strange fascination with the statues was that he didn't have a lot of friends and the statues were to replace the feeling of friends.

I do think he was deprived of his childhood and that is why he thought of "Rosebud" when he died. I thought it was going to be his mom or something, but it was his sleigh from boyhood. I think that it was sweet that that was what he thought of with his last breath. Also, i still don't really know why he married Susan. I don't think he really loved her as much as she loved him. i don't think he loved her singing either.

I would like to give this movie 31/2 stars out of 5, because i did like this movie, it just wasn't as interesting as the others.
Characters: Orson Welles as Charles Foster Kane. Dorothy Comingore as Susan Alexander Kane.     Joseph Cotten as Jedediah Leland.  Everett Sloane as Mr. Bernstein. William Alland as Jerry Thompson.

I love the symbolism of Susan doing the puzzles. It symbolizes what Kane is all about. That he is one big puzzle, but with one piece missing.

QUOTES
"No, I don't think so; no. Mr. Kane was a man who got everything he wanted and then lost it. Maybe Rosebud was something he couldn't get, or something he lost. Anyway, it wouldn't have explained anything... I don't think any word can explain a man's life. No, I guess Rosebud is just a... piece in a jigsaw puzzle... a missing piece." ------Thompson

"Really Charles, people will think-"... Emily
"- -what I tell them to think." ----Kane
"It isn't enough to tell us what a man did. You've got to tell us who he was."----Rawlson

Gone With The Wind!!!

Gone With The Wind
Historical Drama
This is a story of a family during the American Civil War, where life was changed forever.

I give this movie a rating of four and a half stars out of five. My reason for this is because I personally enjoy older movies that show a bit of history to them. I like that this movie shows us how a grand family from the south has their life torn apart by the war, and how with a strong will to live you can prosper once again.

The director for this film is Victor Fleming. Clark Gable stars as Rhett Butler. Vivien Leigh stars as Scarlett O'Hara. Leslie Howard stars as Ashley Wilkes. Olivia de Havilland stars as Melanie Hamilton Wilkes.
I think that Gable did an outstanding job as Mr. Butler. He was strong, yet he showed the amount of restraint he needed against Scarlett. You could feel his anger and his joy. I applaud Vivien for her breathtaking performance as Scarlett. I could see and feel her entire performance and I began to wonder what it really was like in the 1930's.

The story starts as a wealthy family enjoying the spoils of life. The men sit and talk of war and how grand it would be to "lick those yankees." The Wilkes have a party and Scarlett learns that Ashley is going to marry Melanie. Scarlett marries Charles Hamilton. Charles dies at war. Melanie has a baby right when the yankees invade Atlanta. Melanie has a baby boy. They finally get to Tara and the house is a wreak. Mrs. O'Hara has died. Scarlett and Mammy get the cotton farm back together and Scarlett marries Mr. Kennedy who has a store and lumber yard. Scarlett uses those to make her a little richer. One day Scarlett gets in trouble and Frank goes to handle it. He gets killed and Scarlett is dismayed. Rhett and Scarlett get married and they soon have a baby girl named Bonnie Blue. Rhett spoils Bonnie and one day she jumps a fence on her horse and dies. Rhett is in dismay and wants a divorce from Scarlett. Scarlett finally realizes that she doesn't love Ashley but she loves Rhett. She trys to tell him but he walks out on her. The End.

"As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again. No, nor any of my folk. If I have to lie, steal, cheat or kill. As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again."  Scarlett
